Rothesay [ ˈrɒθ.si ] ( Scottish Gaelic : Baile Bhòid ) is the capital of the Isle of Bute in the Scottish Council Area Argyll and Bute . The center of the city is Rothesay Castle , a castle ruin that dates back to the 13th century and has a circular floor plan that is unique in Scotland.

The ruined Neolithic settlement of Townhead lay beneath the modern cemetery and adjacent St. Mary's Chapel on the southern outskirts of Rothesay.
