Bernd Osterloh
Bernd Osterloh (* 12. September 1956 in Braunschweig ) is chairman of the total and the Group Works Council and member of the Presidium of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG .
After completing his training as an industrial clerk (1973), he worked in the profession he had learned and switched to the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg in 1977 . There he went through the classic works council career: from shop steward for IG Metall to election to the works council (1990) to deputy works council chairman (2004).
As Klaus Volkert's deputy , who had to resign as a result of a corruption scandal in June 2005, Osterloh moved into the offices of his predecessor: he was successively elected works council chairman of the Wolfsburg plant, general works council chairman of all VW plants and finally group works council chairman.
Osterloh has been the person responsible for the responsible committee of the works council at the Wolfsburg plant since the start of the " 5000 x 5000 " project developed by the then HR director Peter Hartz . He defended it against considerable opposition from the ranks of his own union against allegations of tariff dumping . According to Handelsblatt , he embodies “the new type of employee manager” and, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, that of the “ co-manager ” who is paid like a department head.
After the formation of Porsche Automobil Holding SE , Osterloh also became chairman of the holding's works council , and Uwe Hück became his deputy . Both were also actively involved in the later takeover of Porsche AG by the Volkswagen Group.
On November 15, 2017, searches of the board and the works council took place. There is suspicion in the room of having pursued tax evasion through excessive salary payments to Osterloh. Osterloh had disclosed his salary in May 2017 after the public prosecutor's investigation became known. At the time, he told the Braunschweiger Zeitung that he would be paid like a division manager and receive a basic salary of around EUR 200,000 per year.
In addition, as usual in management, he receives bonuses based on the company's success. At its peak, his total remuneration was a one-off at around 750,000 euros. In December, Osterloh repeated similar statements in an interview on a website of the trade union IG Metall .
In May 2019 it became known that Osterloh and 14 other employee representatives will be remunerated outside the collective bargaining agreement at management level after a settlement before the Braunschweig Labor Court. This was preceded by a screening of the remuneration by former judges of the Federal Labor Court. According to the Handelsblatt, this was an arbitration and thus a line was drawn under the affair under labor law. The 15 affected works councils, including Osterloh, receive full salaries again.
Daniela Cavallo has been Osterloh's deputy since the beginning of 2019. According to the Handelsblatt, "the German-Italian should be systematically built up as a successor. She will have a few years for this." Osterloh and Cavallo were therefore already active together in the " 5000 times 5000 " project.
Osterloh is a member of IG Metall and the SPD .
He is a soccer fan. Since October 1, 2005, he has been a member of the Supervisory Board and the Presidium of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH .
