The Allerpark is a public adventure park in Wolfsburg . It lies between the Wolfsburg towns of Neuhaus-Reislingen , Vorsfelde , Nordstadt and the city center . Its center is the Allersee , which was built in the late 1960s. The Allerpark is 130 hectares in size and houses numerous leisure activities, including the AOK Stadium , BadeLand , the Ice Arena or the Volkswagen Arena, as well as other freely accessible facilities such as beach volleyball fields , a skate park , outdoor fitness equipment and playgrounds . The Allerpark is marketed by Wolfsburg AG .

history

From 1954 to 1957 the boathouse of the Wolfsburg Canoe Club was built north of the Mittelland Canal ; it was later expanded several times. The Heimatscholle allotment garden was built on the site of today's Allerpark in 1956, and their clubhouse opened in 1957. Around 1960 the campsite and the nature lovers' home already existed. In 1962 the "Italian Village" was built west of the allotment garden as a housing estate for unmarried Italian guest workers; the two-story wooden barracks were demolished in 1978 and replaced by new buildings in the same place. Most recently, the buildings were used as the east office center by the Volkswagen factory; they were demolished for the construction of the Volkswagen Arena . In 1962 the club house of the Wolfsburg Marine Comradeship was inaugurated on the north bank of the Mittelland Canal.

In July 1958 the Wolfsburg City Council approved DM 9 million for the planning of the Allerpark; on March 26, 1969, the council gave its final approval to the project. In 1969, work began on the Allerpark. The Aller was moved northwards; the Allersee was created by dredging the former wetland . The dredged material was used to raise part of the surrounding area. The Allersee was inaugurated on September 3, 1970. The project should have both a cultural purpose and a symbolic function for the city and region. Numerous clubs have been based on the Aller and Allersee since the 1950s and 1960s, for example a canoe, a rowing club and a yacht club. In 1975 the city had to postpone further work on the Allerpark. The reason was falling income from taxes from Volkswagen . Just two years later, a leisure pool opened under the name BadeLand Wolfsburg . In 1980 the Wolfsburg Schützen- und Volksfest took place in the Allerpark for the first time . With the Ice Palace, an ice rink was added in 1983 , which is now called EisArena Wolfsburg . In 1987 the Allersee was deepened again. Today it is 1,230 meters long, 270 meters wide and holds around one million cubic meters of water.

In the 1990s, the service sector in Wolfsburg was only weak, there was a high outflow of purchasing power into the surrounding area. It was from this motivation that the “AutoVision” concept was drawn up, which Volkswagen presented to the city on the occasion of its 60th birthday. It includes numerous measures to strengthen Wolfsburg's quality of life and competitiveness . This included the establishment of an “adventure world” with the Allerpark at its center. High-quality leisure activities should be created there in order to increase the attraction of the city of Wolfsburg and at the same time to strengthen the service sector at the location and to create jobs. Wolfsburg AG was founded in 1999 to implement the “AutoVision” concept . The city of Wolfsburg and Volkswagen each hold half in the joint venture . The company has been coordinating project development in the Allerpark since the late 1990s.

It all started in 2002 with the Volkswagen Arena , the stadium of VfL Wolfsburg . In the same year, the BadeLand Wolfsburg opened after the old leisure pool burned to the ground in 1998. On the occasion of the State Garden Show 2004, the Allerpark was extensively modernized and redesigned. For example, another lake and new hilly landscapes were created. For this, the Allerpark was awarded the German Landscape Architecture Prize 2005 . Due to the fact that the Allerpark next to the palace park made up a large part of the event area, new parking spaces and rooms were created for the individual traffic of the visitors. In 2006 the EisArena Wolfsburg went into operation. In addition, offers in the Allerpark that can be visited without admission, such as the skate sculpture, playgrounds, beach volleyball fields, a disc golf course, a planetary path, paved circular paths and outdoor fitness equipment, have also been expanded in recent years. Between 2000 and 2010, 350 new jobs were created in the Allerpark, and the offers attract several million visitors every year. The latest buildings in the Allerpark are the AOK Stadium , which opened in 2015 and where the women's and youth teams of VfL Wolfsburg play, as well as the VfL Center and the VfL Football World. At the beginning of 2018, the Allerpark was enriched with a hotel for the first time with the Courtyard by Marriott Wolfsburg, and construction began in 2016.

From March 21 to April 16, 2020, the Allerpark was closed to visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany .

Facilities

In recent years, various “adventure-oriented leisure activities” have been created in the Allerpark. In addition to the AOK Stadium, BadeLand Wolfsburg, the EisArena Wolfsburg and the Volkswagen Arena, private investors created numerous other facilities. These increased the offer at the location not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively. Examples of specialized offers in the Allerpark are the Vienna Fitness Studio (formerly SoccaFive Arena), the monkeyman high rope climbing garden , which opened in 2009, or the WakePark water ski facility with an adjacent BeachClub . There is also the Strike Bowling and Event Center and a campsite on the Allersee in the Allerpark .

Several restaurants and a hotel are available to visitors to the Allerpark. The Colombian pavilion, which originated from Expo 2000 and was designed by Daniel Bonilla from Bogotá , was also rebuilt on Allersee for gastronomic purposes .

Various events take place in the Allerpark every year. These include the Schützen- und Volksfest , which sometimes has over 400,000 visitors, the summer festival in the Allerpark and the popular triathlon . The summer festival has attracted tens of thousands of visitors in recent years. The International Suppliers Fair (IZB), organized by Wolfsburg AG and Europe's largest trade fair for automotive suppliers, has been taking place in Allerpark since 2004 .

The most famous facilities in the Allerpark include:

AOK stadium

AOK stadium

The AOK Stadium in Allerpark was built from 2013 to 2015. It is the home ground of the women's and youth teams of VfL Wolfsburg . In particular, women's football was further promoted by the new building. The VfL-FußballWelt, an interactive exhibition about the club, is also located in the AOK Stadium. The AOK Stadium is located west of the Allersee in the direct vicinity of the Volkswagen Arena .

BadeLand Wolfsburg

BadeLand Wolfsburg

In 1977 the Badeland Wolfsburg opened the first swimming pool in the Allerpark, which burned down to the ground in 1999 due to a defect. As a result, a new leisure pool was built at the same location for over 34 million euros. BadeLand Wolfsburg was opened in 2002. It holds 1,700 visitors and has a floor space of 11,000 square meters, including 3,000 square meters of water. The BadeLand Wolfsburg is thus northern Germany's largest leisure and fun pool; it is known nationwide. An Actic Fitness Studio, the Askero Day Spa and the sauna area with twelve different saunas are integrated into the BadeLand. The BadeLand Wolfsburg is located north of the Allersee next to the EisArena Wolfsburg.

EisArena Wolfsburg

EisArena Wolfsburg

The EisArena Wolfsburg is an ice rink in which, among other things, the Bundesliga ice hockey team Grizzlys Wolfsburg is at home. It was opened in 2006 on the site of the former Ice Palace and is also used as a public ice rink in the winter season . In addition, the Lower Saxony state championships in figure skating were organized there in 2014. The Eis Arena Wolfsburg repeatedly made considerable losses. As a result, the Stadtwerke sold it back to the city of Wolfsburg at the end of 2014.

Volkswagen Arena

Volkswagen Arena

The Volkswagen Arena is the football stadium for the men's Bundesliga team of VfL Wolfsburg . It was opened in autumn 2002 and has space for around 30,000 spectators. The construction time was 18 months, the costs amounted to 53 million euros. The first game in the Volkswagen Arena was played between VfL Wolfsburg and VfB Stuttgart . With the Volkswagen Arena, the club wanted to strengthen its international ambitions, especially with regard to the Champions League . The Volkswagen Arena also offers event rooms for congresses, meetings and private celebrations.

societies

There are numerous clubs at the Allersee in the Allerpark. These include, for example, the Wolfsburg Motorboat Club, the Wolfsburg Sport Fishing Club and the Wolfsburg canoe , rowing and yacht clubs. The water sports clubs usually exist longer than the park itself. The Wolfsburg branch of the German Life Saving Society is also located on the Allersee. In particular, she is responsible for water rescue and supervises bathing operations in the main season. The settlement of clubs at the location is related to the strategy of the city of Wolfsburg, in particular to promote sports clubs .
