With around 790,000 visitors annually, it is one of the most popular leisure pools in Germany and the largest of its kind in northern Germany . The operator of the BadeLand is GMF GmbH & Co. KG .

location

The BadeLand is located northeast of the center of Wolfsburg in the Allerpark, north of the Allersee , on a small hill around 61 meters above sea level . Adjacent is the Ice Arena Wolfsburg , the home ground of Hockey - Bundesliga EHC Wolfsburg . To the south are sports and leisure facilities as well as the Allersee. Further north leads beyond the Aller the federal highway 188 over.

history

After the first considerations for the construction of an indoor swimming pool in the course of the planning of the Allerpark in the 1960s, the council of the city of Wolfsburg decided on June 9, 1971 to plan an indoor swimming pool in the north of Wolfsburg. On December 16, 1975, the council decided to build the Allerpark leisure center . At the beginning of September 1976 the topping-out ceremony for the "Badeland", the predecessor of today's BadeLand, took place. Its inauguration followed on April 15, 1977. Its construction costs amounted to 15.3 million DM . Its largest swimming pool was the 35 meter long wave pool, in which the water was set in waves at certain times. Other offers at the Badeland included a massage pool, a paddling pool for children, a sauna, solarium equipment, various play and fitness equipment, a TV corner, a relaxation area and restaurants. From the inside, visitors could swim in a heated outdoor pool. The concept of the pool with its many leisure facilities was unique in northern Germany when it opened, so that it also attracted visitors from the neighboring cities of Wolfsburg. Around 1980 around 350,000 guests visited the water park annually.

Badeland fire ruin (1999), left in the background the ice palace

However, it turned out to be too small, so that a larger bathroom was planned from 1989. The renovation should begin on January 14, 1999. However, a defective sauna heater led to a major fire on the same day, in which the water park was destroyed. Oil leaked from a leak in the automatic infusion system , so that the fire started when the stove was heated up in the morning. The damage amounted to 39 million DM.

The necessary new building was erected at the same location under the management of the municipal company Neuland and opened on February 2, 2002. In order to secure its financing in the long term, the indoor swimming pool in the city center and the “outdoor swimming pool West” on the Laagberg were closed. Since the opening, the operator has been GMF GmbH & Co. KG from Neuried (near Munich) , which operates other leisure pools in Germany and abroad and belongs to the ASPRO Group , which operates theme parks; The owner is the city of Wolfsburg. The BadeLand has been certified by ServiceQualität Deutschland since 2013. Almost eight million guests have been counted since the opening (as of May 2014). From 2014, modernizations should be carried out at a total cost of ten million euros.
