The Wolfsburg Schützen- und Volksfest (popularly known as Rummel ) is an annual festival in Wolfsburg . It was first celebrated as a traditional rifle festival from 1951, and has been a public and rifle festival since 1956. It is known as the "largest folk festival between Harz and Heide ".

Initially it was held on the Rothenfelder Markt, later in front of the town hall . From 1973 to 1979 it took place at the cultural center . It has had its current location in the Allerpark since 1980 .

In 2018 the band City performed at the Wolfsburg Schützen- und Volksfest, in 2019 Karat and Markus followed . The Schützen- und Volksfest planned for May 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany in March 2020.

The festival lasts from Friday before Ascension to Sunday after Ascension. It is visited by around 400,000 people. The peak was reached in 2016 with around 450,000 visitors. On the first day the light installationAll in Flames” takes place, on the penultimate day there is a large firework display on the Aller.

The organizer is the Schützengesellschaft Wolfsburg eV Every year the majesties are proclaimed at the festival . The Wolfsburg Schützenverein was founded on July 4, 1950 and was renamed Schützengesellschaft Wolfsburg in 1952 . Its forerunner is the Heßlingen- Wolfsburg Schützengesellschaft founded in 1905 , which had to cease its club activities in 1938. Rolf Wolters , who was chairman of the Wolfsburg Schützengesellschaft from 1975 to 2015 and who organized the Wolfsburg Schützen- und Volksfest in cooperation with showmen for over 44 years until 2016 , was made an honorary citizen of Wolfsburg on March 10, 2019 .
