Winfried Holtmann

Winfried Albert Holtmann (born June 4, 1941 in Oberhausen ; † March 27, 2003 in Stuttgart ) was a German cycling manager, journalist and editor-in-chief of the Sindelfinger Zeitung .

Initially, Holtmann was a professional soldier in the German Armed Forces , most recently a captain in a paratrooper troop . He played handball in the Bundesliga team of SV Stuttgart-Möhringen . In 1974 he became editor-in-chief of the Sindelfinger Zeitung and was a founding member of the RSG Böblingen .

In 1984 Holtmann initiated the Stuttgart six-day race and also organized some in Münster and Leipzig . His help made it possible for the Tour de France to stop in Stuttgart in 1987 . The Stuttgart team he founded in 1988 was a forerunner of the T-Mobile team . For many years he organized the road cycling competition Coca-Cola Trophy . The Winfried Holtmann memorial race, which was held several times, was a reminder of his achievements in cycling.

Until his unexpected death in 2003, Winfried Holtmann was President of the Association of German Cycle Race Organizers .
