Enrico Valentini (born February 20, 1989 in Nuremberg ) is an Italian-German soccer player . The 1.82 m tall right-footer has been under contract with 1. FC Nürnberg since 2017 .

Career

Enrico Valentini was born to Italian parents in Nuremberg and grew up there. He began his career in 1994 at the age of four in the youth team of 1. FC Nürnberg , where he played in all youth teams in the following years. In 2008, the role model Alessandro Del Piero moved up to the second team of FCN in the Regionalliga Süd and trained under coach Hans Meyer with the Bundesliga team, but was unable to make the jump to the first team after a knee injury. In the 2009/10 season he prevailed in the regional league team under coach René Müller as a regular player and with seven goals in 31 games became the team's second-best goalscorer after Ahmet Kulabas .

For the 2010/11 season Valentini signed a two-year contract with VfR Aalen , which had been promoted to the 3rd division . He made his professional debut on October 16, 2010 when he came on for Sascha Traut in the 71st minute of the game against 1. FC Saarbrücken . After coach Rainer Scharinger was dismissed during the winter break, his successor Ralph Hasenhüttl put the original offensive player as a left-back from February 2011 . In this position, Valentini fought for a regular place and completed so twelve of the 16 remaining games before he was injured for the rest of the season. Because he missed most of the preparation for the new season as a result, Thorsten Schulz was hired another full-back, to whom Valentini lost his regular place again; However, he took this back in the second half of the season as a substitute for the injured Schulz. In March 2012, Valentini's expiring contract was extended by two more years until summer 2014. At the end of the season Valentini rose to the 2nd Bundesliga with VfR .

After he was used as a substitute for the majority of the preliminary round in the following season 2012/13, he fought for a regular place in the left midfield with the second division team in November 2012, was able to defend this until the end of the season and scored four goals; in the DFB Cup he scored another goal. His goal for the 1-0 away win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in December 2012 was nominated by the ARD Sportschau for the choice of Goal of the Month .

In the summer of 2014, Valentini moved to league rivals Karlsruher SC on a free transfer . There he was used sporadically at the beginning of the season in the left midfield before he had to help out on the right side of the defense after the regular right- backs Sascha Traut and Philipp Klingmann were unable to do so. There he was able to assert himself even after their recovery and with his good performance contributed to the fact that the KSC was able to reach third place at the end of the season. In the relegation, Valentini with Karlsruhe just failed at Hamburger SV , so that he also played in the 2nd Bundesliga the following season. In this he scored his first goal for Karlsruhe on September 27, 2015, the 9th matchday, in the away game against 1. FC Heidenheim . He was able to convert a free kick in the 93rd minute of the game to make it 1-1.

After the relegation of Karlsruhe in the 2016/17 season, Valentini switched back to his training club, 1. FC Nürnberg, with which he was runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2018 and thus promoted to the Bundesliga . As the bottom of the table, however, Valentini's direct relegation with the club took place as a regular player in spring 2019 . In February 2020, the defensive player extended his contract in Nuremberg until June 2022.

Trivia

In the game of 1. FC Nürnberg against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 2nd round of the DFB Cup 2019/20 , the Nuremberg goalkeeper Patric Klandt was injured in extra time. Since Nürnberg had already exhausted the exchange contingent, full-back Valentini had to guard the goal in the subsequent penalty shoot-out. He couldn't save a penalty and Nürnberg was eliminated.

His older sister Roberta is a musical actress.
