Rostislav Olesz (born October 10, 1985 in Bílovec , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Vítkovice Steel in the Czech Extraliga since September 2014 .

Career

Rostislav Olesz began his career in the offspring of HC Sareza Ostrava . He later played in the junior teams of HC Vítkovice, for which he played from 1999 in the U18 extra league. In the following season he initially played again with the U18 juniors, but was also repeatedly used with the U20 juniors. He also made his debut in the Czech Extraliga that same season and, at the age of 15, became the youngest Extraliga player of all time. In the following two years he first developed into a regular player in the U20 extra league and later became an integral part of the men's team at HC Vítkovice.

At the 2004 U20 World Cup, 18-year-old Olesz scored three goals and two assists, drawing the attention of NHL scouts to him. Consequently, Rostislav Olesz was selected by the Panthers from the National Hockey League in the first round in seventh place during the NHL Entry Draft 2004 . After this positive experience he moved to HC Sparta Prague , with whom he was able to reach the 2004/05 playoffs . After a very successful participation in the U20 World Cup in 2005 (seven goals and three assists) he moved to North America and made it directly into the NHL squad of the Panthers. In his rookie season, he scored eight goals and 13 assists.

On June 25, 2011, the Panthers gave it to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Brian Campbell . In June 2013, the Blackhawks paid out his contract early (buy out) . A few days later, he signed a one-year deal worth a million US dollars with the New Jersey Devils . Olesz only stayed there for a few months until he moved back to Europe in November 2013, joined SC Bern and spent the rest of the season there.

In September 2014 he finally returned to his homeland and from then on plays for HC Vítkovice Steel .

International

Rostislav Olesz has participated in five international title fights in his career to date: he took part in the 2003 U18 World Cup for the U18 national team. From 2004 he first played for the U20 team, including the 2004 U20 World Cup and the 2005 U20 World Cup . A highlight of his career was the appointment to the Olympic squad for the Winter Games in Turin 2006 , where he won the bronze medal with the national team. A year later he was a member of the team that finished seventh at the 2007 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship .
