Clarke MacArthur (born April 6, 1985 in Lloydminster , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played as a center for the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League since July 2013 .

Career

As a junior MacArthur played three years for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League . He was selected 74th in the third round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Sabers. Clarke made his professional debut with the Sabers farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League in the 2004/05 playoffs . In his first full season in Rochester in 2005/06 he went on the ice in 69 games and scored a total of 53 points scorer.

On December 19, 2006, he was called to the NHL squad of the Sabers and made his NHL debut against the Montréal Canadiens . In his fourth NHL game on February 20, 2007, he was able to achieve his first scorer point when he gave the template for the goal of Andrew Peters . Two days later he scored his first goal in the NHL against the Ottawa Senators .

In the 2007/08 season he was initially only used in the AHL and was one of the players with the highest points in his team. In the middle of the season he was then ordered back into the NHL squad and fought for a regular place for the following season.

In March 2010 he was handed over to the Atlanta Thrashers for two draft picks . In August 2010, he signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent . After Chris Stewart and Wayne Simmonds had left the ice pirates Crimmitschau , MacArthur was signed by the club from the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey as a replacement. There, the attacker completed nine games during the lockout of the 2012/13 season before returning to the Maple Leafs.

In July 2013 MacArthur signed a two-year contract as a free agent with the Ottawa Senators , for which he scored 56 points in the 2013/14 season and subsequently received a new contract in August 2014 until the end of the 2019/20 season, which gave him a should bring in average annual salary of $ 4.65 million.

In October 2015, in the fourth game of the season that had just started, MacArthur suffered another concussion after colliding with his own goalkeeper Robin Lehner in February 2015 . As a result, he suffered from post-commotional syndrome and fell out indefinitely. At the end of the 2015/16 season, in March 2016, he was medically declared ready to play, but it was decided against a direct return to the ice and instead wanted to wait until the beginning of the coming season. In preparation for this, however, MacArthur suffered another concussion when he was checked into the gang during training by Patrick Sieloff , who had recently joined the team and was thus out again. In January 2017, the Senators announced that MacArthur would be out for the remainder of the season, with doubts raised as to whether he would ever get back on the ice. At the beginning of April 2017, however, the Canadian made his comeback in the NHL and thus completed his first competitive game after a year and a half injury break. After the season, however, symptoms reappeared, so MacArthur is out again for the time being.
