Post-commotional syndrome

The Postkommotionelle syndrome , English post-concussion syndrome ; french syndrome post-commotionnel , denotes changes that can occur after a concussion . Apathy , headache , dizziness or nausea as well as exhaustion and concentration disorders can persist for several weeks after a traumatic brain injury .

Clinical manifestations

Clinical criteria are:

  • close temporal association with a concussion
  • Symptoms usually disappear after days to weeks
  • Headache (main hallmark), mostly one-sided
  • Visual disturbances with flickering in front of the eyes
  • Dizziness or nausea
  • Apathy, exhaustion, irritability, difficulty concentrating or memory
