Ipsach (in local dialect [ ˈipsə ]) is a village with its own community of residents and civic community in the Biel / Bienne administrative district of the Swiss canton of Bern .

geography

The village lies on the right bank of Lake Biel . The neighboring communities are in the north Nidau and Port BE , in the east Bellmund and in the south Sutz-Lattrigen .

history

The constant presence of people in today's municipal area since the Neolithic is proven by numerous finds; a permanent settlement is clearly established for Roman times . The village is first documented in 1265/66 as a designation of origin for the name Bertholdus de Ipzacho . The place name is derived from a Latin personal name Ebidius / Ebetius / Æbutius with the Celtic place name suffix -akos / -acum .

Ipsach is 86.89% a German-speaking community. 8.8% are French-speaking.

The voting shares of the parties at the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 30.7%, SP 22.1%, FDP 13.8%, BDP 12.1%, glp 7.2%, GPS 6.7%, EVP 2.4 %, CVP 1.8%, pirates 1.4%, EDU 1.0%.
