Walter Egger (journalist)

Walter Egger (born December 30, 1895 in Lengnau ; † November 21, 1991 in Bern ) was a Swiss journalist and politician ( FDP ).

biography

The son of a watchmaker attended schools in Büren an der Aare and completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk in a notary's office and the municipal clerk in Mühleberg , which he graduated with a diploma in 1911. In 1918 he obtained the Matura on the second educational path. Egger studied law at the University of Bern and received his doctorate in 1922. From 1922 to 1932 he was trade editor at the Bern daily newspaper Der Bund , then domestic editor and from 1941 to 1964 editor-in-chief . From 1950 Egger was President of the Board of Directors of the Confederation and from 1945 to 1981 a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Dispatch Agency (President 1963 to 1970, then Honorary President).

From 1932 to 1935 Egger was City Councilor of Bern and from 1934 to 1948 Grand Councilor of the Canton of Bern . From 1944 to 1948 he chaired the Free Democratic Party of the Canton of Bern . From 1951 to 1955 he was a member of the National Council .
