Ayrton De Pauw (born March 12, 1998 in Zottegem ) is a former Belgian cyclist who specializes in the short-term disciplines in track cycling .

Athletic career

Ayrton De Pauw began his sporting career as a motocross rider and won three national titles as such. The lack of training opportunities and the costly nature of the sport led De Pauw to turn to cycling. He drove road races for a season until he focused on the short-term disciplines on the track.

In his first year on the track, De Pauw took third place in the Belgian youth championship in sprint , and the following year he became junior sprint champion. In 2016 he became the European Junior Champion in the 1000 meter time trial and won three national junior titles. He also started the UCI World Junior Championships in 2016 , where he finished sixth over the 1000 meters in the new Belgian record time for juniors of 1: 03.129 minutes.

In December 2016, De Pauw became the Belgian elite champion in the 1000-meter time trial (the championship is counted for 2017). In 2019 he ended his sporting career because he could no longer combine work - he is a firefighter - and sport.
