Dimitri De Fauw (born July 13, 1981 in Ghent ; † November 6, 2009 in Heusden ) was a Belgian cyclist who was mainly active on the track .
Athletic career
Dimitri De Fauw began his career in 2003 with the farm team of Quick Step-Davitamon , later he went for the ProTeam . Four times he won runs of the UIV Cup , a junior competition for six-day drivers , all together with Iljo Keisse . In 2004 the two drivers won the overall ranking of the Cup. In total, he was Belgian champion on the track 18 times.
On November 26, 2006, De Fauw collided with the Spaniard Isaac Gálvez Lopez at the six-day race in Ghent , who died as a result of the accident. Since then, De Fauw, who was previously known to his colleagues as a downright joker, has suffered from depression . In an interview he said: “I will carry this with me for the rest of my life. Only time can heal my wounds. "(" I'll carry this around with me for the rest of my life. Only time can heal my wounds. ")
6 November 2009 Dimitri De Fauw committed at the age of 28 years suicide .
