Leo Sterckx

Leo Sterckx (born July 16, 1936 in Hulshout ) is a former Belgian track cyclist .

1959 and 1960 Leo Sterckx was Belgian champion in the sprint of amateurs . He started at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 and won the silver medal in the sprint and became vice world champion in Leipzig in the same year , also in the sprint. He also finished second at the Grand Prix de Paris that year. In all three international races he was beaten by the Italian Sante Gaiardoni .

In 1961, Sterckx switched to the professionals . In 1962 and 1963 he won the Grand Prix du Roi sprint tournament in Brussels , was Belgian runner-up in 1963 and Belgian sprint champion in 1964. In 1963 he started his only six-day race and finished third with Willi Altig in Buenos Aires . In 1965 he was again Belgian runner-up in the sprint and then ended his cycling career.
