Jan-Reinard Sieckmann

Jan-Reinard Sieckmann (* 1960 ) is a German legal scholar , legal philosopher and university professor at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

Life

Sieckmann studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1978 until his first state examination in 1983 . At the law faculty there, he received his doctorate in 1987 with a legal theoretical thesis supervised by Ralf Dreier . iur. This was followed by his legal clerkship at the Berlin Higher Regional Court , which he completed in 1991 with the second state examination. In 1991 he studied as part of a research stay at the University of Oxford . After returning to Germany, he worked from 1992 to 1997 as a research assistant at Robert Alexy's chair at Kiel University. Under his supervision, Sieckmann completed his habilitation process in 1997 and received the venia legendi for the subjects of public law and legal philosophy from the University of Kiel.

This was followed by professorships at the Universities of Cologne and Freiburg . From 1998 to 2008 he held a full professorship at the University of Bamberg . In 2009 he switched to the full chair for legal theory and legal philosophy at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , which he has held since then. From 2007 to 2012 he was on permanent leave to work as a long-term lecturer for the DAAD at the University of Buenos Aires .

Sieckmann's research focuses primarily on legal philosophy, legal theory, argumentation theory, constitutional theory, and fundamental and human rights. A central point of his research is autonomy .
