Marta Cavalli (born March 18, 1998 in Cremona ) is an Italian racing cyclist who is active on track and road .

Athletic career

Marta Cavalli's father, Alberto, was a cyclist and put his daughter on her bike when she was ten. In the following years she was successful in races in all age groups.

2015 was Marta Cavalli together with Elisa Balsamo , Rachele Barbieri and Sofia Bertizzolo Junior European champion in the team pursuit . On May 11, 2016, she fell seriously while training at the Velodromo Fassa Bortolo in Montichiari , whereupon she was in hospital for three weeks and was at risk of losing a kidney for months . She was only able to train again after six months and in December 2016 immediately became the Italian junior champion in the points race .

In 2017 Cavalli became the U23 European team pursuit champion with Balsamo, Martina Alzini and Francesca Pattaro . She was able to defend this title in 2018 and 2019 . In 2018 she was also U23 European champion in the singles pursuit

In two races of the Track Cycling World Cup 2017/18 - in Santiago de Chile and in Minsk - Cavalli won the silver medal together with the Italian women's four. In Santiago, she also won bronze in the two-man team driving with Elisa Balsamo . At the Elite European Championships in 2018 , she won the silver medal with the Italian four-four. In the same year she became Italian road racing champion .

In July 2019 she won the Derny European Championship, which was held for the first time for women . On the road , she won her first international competition with a stage of the Giro delle Marche in pink , which she finished second overall.
