Keturah Orji (born March 5, 1996 in Hoboken , New Jersey ) is an American athlete who specializes in the triple jump . She holds the US triple jump indoor record and took part in the 2016 Olympics for the United States .

Career

After she won the competition in the US World Youth Trials in the triple jump and took second place in the long jump , she was nominated in both disciplines for the 2013 World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine . On July 12, 2013 she secured the bronze medal behind Florentina Marincu and Wang Rong in the triple jump competition in Donetsk . Two days later she won the silver medal in the long jump behind Florentina Marincu.

A year later she took part in the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene , where she only started in the triple jump . With a width of 13.29 m, it took ninth place. On June 13, 2015, she started at the Championships of the National College Athletic Association in Eugene. For the first time she secured the NCAA championship title with a width of 14.15 m. A year later she started again at the NCAA championships and was able to successfully defend her championship title on June 11, 2016. In addition, she improved Tiombe Hurd's triple jump record to 14.53 m.

About a month later, she secured her first US triple jump championship title and was nominated by the United States Olympic Committee for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . After successfully qualifying for the Olympic final in the triple jump, she improved her US record to 14.71 m in the first attempt on August 14, 2016. In the final it was her best jump and in the end she had to settle for fourth place. Her US record was improved to 14.85 m by Tori Franklin on May 12, 2018 .

On February 25, 2017, she started the triple jump at the SEC Indoor Championships in Nashville and won the competition with a width of 14.32 m. With this distance, she broke the almost 22-year-old US indoor record in Sheila Hudson's triple jump . In the outdoor season, she was able to successfully defend her NCAA championship title with a width of 14.29 m and a little later also her US championship.

On January 20, 2018, she improved her US indoor record in the triple jump to 14.53 m in Clemson . In addition, on June 9, 2018, she won the NCAA championship title for the fourth time in a row, and two days earlier she had already secured the NCAA title in the long jump with a distance of 6.67 m. In addition, she secured her third US championship title in a row in Des Moines on June 21, 2018 .

In 2019 she competed in both jumping disciplines for the first time at the US championships. First she won her fourth triple jump title in a row on July 25 in Des Moines with 14.56 m. Two days later she was sixth in the long jump with 6.68 m and thus missed a qualification for the World Championships in Doha . At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , she won the bronze medal in the long jump with 6.66 m.
