Johannes HE Koch

Johannes Hermann Ernst Koch (born March 23, 1918 in Groß Börnecke ; † September 14, 2013 in Herford ) was a German composer, church musician, church music director and music teacher.

Life

Koch grew up in Leipzig , where he was initially a member of the St. Thomas Choir , and then studied there at the Church Music Institute with Karl Straube , Karl Hoyer , Hermann Ernst Koch and Johann Nepomuk David . After the end of the Second World War , he studied at the Music Academy in Detmold with Kurt Thomas and Günter Bialas (composition).

Koch helped Wilhelm Ehmann to set up the church music school in Herford, today's college for church music . There he worked as a teacher for composition and composition until 1988.

At the Stiftberger St. Marien Church in Herford he worked for 25 years as a cantor and wind choir leader.

His compositions cover almost all genres of instrumental and vocal music. A special focus was on the composition of works for trombone choirs. One of his most important works is the Bergrede, composed for the 1969 Kirchentag in Stuttgart, based on a text by Rudolf Otto Wiemer .

In 2000 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon in recognition of his life's work as a composer, church musician and music teacher .
