Rudolf Otto Wiemer (born March 24, 1905 Friedrichroda ; † June 5, 1998 Göttingen ) was a German-speaking poet , puppeteer and teacher .

life and work

Wiemer was born on March 24, 1905 in Friedrichroda, Am Friedensplatz, and attended school in Schnepfenthal and Gotha . In 1921 he joined the Wandervogel movement, which fostered literature, music, theater and nature.

From 1923 to 1924 he trained as a teacher. A year earlier (1922) he published his first play, which was published as an amateur play.

From 1928 he appeared increasingly as a theater and music critic in Sondershausen , where he also worked as a teacher and organist.

In 1932 he married the music teacher Elisabeth Peinemann. This marriage resulted in three children: the composer, organist and art historian Wolfgang Wiemer as well as Reinhart and Uta Wiemer.

During the Second World War Wiemer worked as a teacher and soldier and was briefly captured by the Americans.

From 1945 to 1947 Wiemer lived in Liebenburg near Goslar . In the meantime he worked increasingly as a writer, but initially continued to earn his living as a teacher. During this time he founded his own puppet theater, the Liebenburger Kaspers . As a puppeteer, he was one of the artistically respected representatives of this profession; he kept in touch with puppetry greats of his time such as B. Max Jacob and Walter Büttner . He brought out numerous puppet shows as amateur plays. A trademark was the figure of Jochen Holtschuh (this funny family name actually existed in Friedrichroda around 1900).

In the following years Wiemer worked as a teacher in Salzgitter and Göttingen , but worked more and more as a writer.

Immediately after the opening of the border in November 1989, Wiemer visited his hometown Friedrichroda.

His entire literary works include poetry , short stories, novels, children's books, theater (puppet shows and plays) and radio plays. It is noticeable that many of his works are inspired by Christianity, even biblical . Wiemer has received several awards for his work.

Wiemer died on June 5, 1998 after a short illness in his house in Göttingen.
