Carl Heinz Kurz (born November 26, 1920 in Zellerfeld , † February 11, 1993 in Bovenden ) was a German writer.

Live and act

Kurz studied in Prague and Nottingham , among others . He then worked as a teacher and from the 1950s also worked as a writer, devoting himself particularly to religious topics, which he treated from the perspective of a Reformed Christian. In Brunnen Verlag , he published several biographies of exposed Christian personalities in the series Witnesses of the Living God, which was popular at the time , including the Japanese Kagawa Toyohiko , the clergyman and educator Johann Friedrich Oberlin , the order's founder Francis of Assisi , and the Irish philanthropist Thomas John Barnardo .

From the beginning of the 1970s, the author of Christian subjects increasingly became a travel writer who visited all continents and reported on them in books such as Asian Miniatures, American Impressions , Australian Silhouettes and African Reminiscences .

Carl Heinz Kurz was very interested in questions of contemporary German literature. His book portraits of poets deals with the poets Adolf Georg Bartels , Wilhelm Fredemann and Rudolf Otto Wiemer . The book Poetenbilder is dedicated to Karl Heinz Bolay , Peter Coryllis and Hajo Knebel . In numerous anthologies edited by Kurz, he wanted to introduce new discoveries to the reading public. The first literary publication by Volker Zotz can be found in his anthology Between Alle Gleisen in 1978 .

In 1977, while searching for the theologian and writer Hans Dittmer in Göttingen, he found his son Hans Otfried Dittmer , who, after several joint projects, brought him together with Gauke Verlag , where Kurz published a large number of books and series, mainly as editor.

On his travels and through his studies, Kurz got to know Japanese poetry, whose forms Haiku , Tanka and Haibun he wanted to make fertile for German literature. He presented numerous volumes of poetry in this direction, including 1985 On Shadowed Path . He had a long-standing literary friendship with the literary scholar Yukio Kotani . Kurz was instrumental in setting up the German Haiku Society . The “founder was the writer, scholar and world traveler Carl Heinz Kurz. Choosing the name of his holiday home in the Harz Mountains, he also donated a 'Haiku Prize in the Eulenwinkel'. "
