Tim Mertens (born February 7, 1986 in Mechelen ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Career

In 2004, Tim Mertens was at the Bahnbelgischer junior track cycling champion in the 1000 m time trial , in the single pursuit and in the points race . At the European Junior Championship he won the bronze medal in the points race and the silver medal in the Madison at the World Championship . On the road , he won a stage in the Keizer Juniores Koksijde junior tour and came second overall. In 2005 Mertens became Belgian champion in the Omnium and a year later in the team pursuit . In the 2007 season he won three races of the UIV Cup and was also first in the overall standings. At the U23 track cycling world championship in Cottbus , he was third in the team pursuit. In 2007 and 2008 he was on the road for the Belgian Continental Team Davitamon-Win for Life-Jong Vlaanderen and then for Topsport Vlaanderen .

At the end of the 2013 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist.
