Zakkari "Zak" Dempster (born September 27, 1987 in Castlemaine , Victoria ) is a former Australian cyclist .
Career
Zakkari Dempster was initially successful in track cycling . In 2007 he became the Australian champion in team pursuit and scratch . At the Oceania Championships, he won gold in the team pursuit and silver in the points race and scratch. At the rail world championships in 2007 he finished sixth with the Australian team.
In the next few years he devoted himself to Dempster mainly to road cycling and won a stage of the Tour of Japan in 2010 . After working for Continental Teams since 2007 and as a stagiaire at ProTeam HTC-Highroad in 2010 , he received a contract with a professional Continental team , Team NetApp-Endura , in 2013 . For this team he contested the Vuelta a España 2013 and the Tour de France 2014 . He finished these races in 133rd and 152nd.
Parallel to his involvement in cycling, Dempster studied sports science after graduating from school and worked as a fitness trainer at the Carlton Football Club during the Australian summer from 2010 to 2013 .
At the end of the 2019 season, in which he achieved his most important career success with victory in the one-day race Arnhem – Veenendaal Classic , Dempster ended his racing career and moved to the management of his last team, the Israel Cycling Academy .
