Gabriel Ovidio Curuchet (born June 24, 1963 in Mar del Plata ) is a former Argentine cyclist .

Sporting development

In 1983, Gabriel Curuchet had his first international success when he third in the individual pursuit on the track at the Pan American Games in Caracas was. Two years later he won both the single pursuit gold medal at the Pan American Games and the national road race title in Argentina. 1989 Curuchet joined the professionals, where he was active until 2004.

In 1995 Gabriel Curuchet was second at the World Track Championships in Bogotá in a two-man team driving together with his brother Juan Esteban . The successful duo was able to place itself on the podium twice at World Track Championships: in 1997 in Perth and 2001 in Antwerp , they each took third place. The brothers also successfully completed numerous six-day races. They won that of Buenos Aires twice , in 1999 and 2000, and that of Mar del Plata in 1995.

In 2000 Curuchet was again Argentine road champion. He competed four times at the Olympic Games , 1984 in Los Angeles , 1988 in Seoul , 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney in the disciplines of one-man , team pursuit and two- man team driving. His most successful placement was a seventh place in the two-man team race in 2000 with his brother.

Gabriel Curuchet has been President of the Argentine Cycling Federation since 2004. At the World Cycling Association Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) he is a member of the commission for track cycling.
