Jelena Valerjewna Tschalych , also Elena Tchalykh or Yelena Chalykh ( Russian Елена Валерьевна Чалых ; born March 25, 1974 in Rubzowsk , Altai region ) is a former Azerbaijani and until 2010 Russian cyclist . Until 1991 she competed for the Soviet Union .

Athletic career

In 1990 Jelena Tschalych was in the British Middlesbrough Junior World Champion on the track in the single pursuit , in points she was third. Two years later she finished second in the single pursuit at the Junior Track World Championships in Athens .

At the UCI Track World Championships in Manchester in 2000 , Tschalych was third in the single pursuit. She was able to repeat this placement in the same discipline at the 2001 World Championships in Antwerp and at the 2004 World Championships in Melbourne . At the Olympic Games in Athens, she finished seventh in the single pursuit. In 2008 she was European champion in the Omnium in Pruszków and fourth in the points race at the 2010 UCI Track World Championships in Ballerup .

In 2001 Jelena Tschalych became the Russian road race champion and in 2008 the individual time trial . In 2012 she became Azerbaijani double champion in road racing and in the individual time trial.

After the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , where she finished 20th in the individual time trial and retired from the road race, Tschalych ended her sporting career after more than 20 years.
