Roger Gaignard (born April 13, 1933 in Paris ) is a former French track cyclist .

As a track cyclist, Roger Gaignard specialized in sprinting . In 1954 he achieved his first two great successes: He came third in the amateur sprint at the 1954 UCI track world championships in Cologne and took second place in the renowned sprint classic Grand Prix de Paris .

In 1955 Gaignard became a professional and took third place in the French championship in the professional sprint; the following year he won the championship title and came second again at the Grand Prix de Paris . By 1965 he was a six-time French sprint champion. In 1957 he again finished third in the sprint at a World Track Championships . On non-European tracks, he won the 1964 North American sprint championship. In 1954 he improved the world records over 1000 meters with a standing or flying start. He won several international sprint tournaments, such as the 1958 Grand Prix de l´UCI , where he defeated the reigning world champion Jan Derksen . He also won the Copenhagen Grand Prix and the Amsterdam Grand Prix that year.

He also started in 20 six-day races .

Roger Gaignard, who came from a circus family, was nicknamed a clown because he worked as a circus clown during his cycling career and afterwards.
