Georges Cassignard

Georges Cassignard (born August 5, 1873 in Bordeaux , † September 28, 1893 in Paris ) was a French track cyclist .

Georges Cassignard began professional cycling at the age of 16. In 1891 he set a world record on the tricycle , in 1892 he became French champion on the tricycle, in the sprint and over 50 kilometers. That year he also won the Grand Prix d'Angers . In 1893 he set further records and became two-time national champions over one and five kilometers. His last win was in Milan at the Italian Grand Prix over 10 kilometers.

On September 28, 1893, at the age of 20, Cassignard fell from his horse while riding a morning ride in Paris. Around 2000 people came to his funeral on October 1st in Izon near his native Bordeaux. A small mausoleum was later built over his grave.
