Francis Castaing

Francis Castaing (born April 22, 1959 in Bordeaux ) is a former French cyclist .

Life

Francis Castaing was a versatile cyclist who enjoyed success both on the track and on the road . As an amateur , he won the Tour de Gironde , the following year he started in the road race at the Olympic Games in Moscow and finished 30th.

Castaing then moved on to the professionals. On the track he became French sprint champion in 1981 , in 1982 he won the national title in points and was runner-up in sprint. Finally, he shifted his athletic focus to the road. Among other things, he won Paris-Bourges in 1981 , the Grand Prix Ouest France in 1982 , the Tour de Vendée in 1986 and took numerous top positions in high-class races. He started three times in the Tour de France ; In 1984 he was the first in the field to cross the Cormet de Roselend and in 1985 he won the sixth stage. In 1988 he retired from active cycling.
