Roelof Frankot (born October 25, 1911 in Meppel , † December 1, 1984 in Raalte , Overijssel ) was a Dutch artist.

Life

During his training as a photographer , Frankot learned from 1928 with the court photographer Gotfried de Groot in Amsterdam. Since the early 1930s, he switched to painting. He later had a close association with the CoBrA movement; the inspiration from this is evident in his abstract oil paintings with strong colors. From 1942 to 1948 he was married to the painter Stien Eelsingh ; at that time both were based in Staphorst .

Occasionally Frankot also wrote poems that were edited along with publications about his art. He was viewed by critics as a innovator of Dutch art. There have been exhibitions of his works in Europe, the USA and Latin America. His works are in many private collections, especially in Great Britain, France and Holland. Many of his paintings were sold especially to Denmark.

Frankot died in 1984 at the age of 73 years to cancer .
