Miralem Sulejmani ( Cyrillic Миралем Сулејмани ; born December 5, 1988 in Belgrade ) is a Serbian football player . He plays for the Serbian national soccer team and is under contract with BSC Young Boys .
Club career
Partizan Belgrade
Miralem Sulejmani went through the well-known youth teams of Partizan Belgrade since 2000 . As a professional, he made his debut for the club in 2005 and was considered one of the country's greatest football talents. After a year and a half and a few missions, he moved to SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands in January 2007 .
SC Heerenveen
Due to inconsistencies during his move to SC Heerenveen , the striker was suspended from the association until May 11, 2007. It was only in the 2007/08 season that he was able to really attack his new employer. He made his debut on May 13, 2007 in a 3-0 win against Heracles Almelo , where he managed to set up a goal. Sulejmani scored his first goal on August 17, 2007 against Willem II Tilburg . In the follow-up game against Ajax Amsterdam , the Serb scored his second goal. Over the course of the season, Sulejmani developed into a top performer and an important pillar of the team. These performances did not leave the national and international top teams unobserved. In July 2008, the attacker finally went to Ajax Amsterdam for 16,250,000 euros , which is the highest transfer fee paid to date for a move within the Netherlands .
Ajax Amsterdam
Due to the record transfer fee of 16,250,000 euros , the expectations of the attacker were high. But Sulejmani, who was previously voted football talent of the year in the Netherlands in the 2007/2008 season , quickly made his way into the Amsterdam team and quickly became a crowd favorite. He made his debut for Ajax in a friendly against English representatives Sunderland . In his first competitive game for Ajax in the Eredivisie , he scored a goal against Willem II Tilburg . In the first game of the following season he scored two goals against De Graafschap . In the first half of the league he scored eleven goals in 17 games.
During the winter break, numerous top clubs from all over Europe showed great interest in Sulejmani, including Liverpool FC , Arsenal London and Valencia FC from Spain . On March 4, 2012 he was injured in a game between Ajax and Roda JC Kerkrade and was out until the end of the season. In the 2012/13 season, Sulejmani decided not to renew his contract with Ajax Amsterdam, which was due to expire in the summer. Then it was used less and less. In February 2013 he was first brought in connection with the Portuguese record champions Benfica Lisbon . After being confirmed to sign with Benfica, coach Frank de Boer demoted him to Ajax's second team, where he would spend the remainder of the 2012/13 season before moving to Portugal .
Benfica Lisbon
For the 2013/14 season he moved together with his national team colleagues Filip Đuričić and Lazar Marković to Benfica Lisbon , where he signed a five-year contract. There both met their national team colleague Nemanja Matić .
BSC Young Boys
In the 2015/16 season, Sulejmani moved to Switzerland to the Young Boys Bern , with whom he signed a three-year contract. In the 2017/18 season he played a major role in the Young Boys' twelfth championship title, the first after a 32-year break.
National team
On February 6, 2008 Sulejmani made his debut in the game in Skopje against Macedonia in the Serbian national football team . He had previously played for the U-19 and U-21 national teams several times. He scored his first goal on September 12, 2012 in a 6-1 win over Wales in Novi Sad . In the following friendly on November 14, 2012 against Chile, which Serbia won 3-1, he was in the starting line-up and prepared the 1-0 for Lazar Marković .
