Gerardo Seoane (born October 30, 1978 in Lucerne ) is a former Swiss football player and today's coach.
Career as a player
Seoane's parents are from Spain ; he has both Swiss citizenship and Spanish citizenship.
He started his career as a junior at FC Rothenburg and later moved to FC Luzern . Seoane was considered a great talent in Swiss football at the end of the 1990s, but neither at FC Luzern nor later at FC Sion he was able to assert himself. In 1998 he moved to Spain and joined Deportivo La Coruña for several years in his parents' Galician homeland . There he was only used for the B-team and in 2001 he joined AC Bellinzona on loan for half a year . Then Seoane returned to Deportivo La Coruña, for which he still did not complete a game for the professional team.
In 2002 he was signed by FC Aarau , for which he was a regular for two years. From there he went to the City of Zurich Grasshopper Club with coach Alain Geiger . At the beginning of 2007 he returned to FC Luzern and played there until 2010. In the cup game against the Grasshopper Club on March 14, 2007, the 28-year-old broke his tibia and fibula . He was team captain of FC Luzern and ended his career there in June 2010.
Career as a coach
After the end of his career as a professional footballer, Seoane worked in the youth division of FC Luzern and in April 2013 was the interim coach for the first team for a game. From 2014 to 2017 he was the coach of the FC Luzern U21 team. After Markus Babbel was dismissed , Seoane took over the club's first team as head coach in January 2018.
On July 1, 2018, he became the head coach of the Swiss champions BSC Young Boys , with whom he defended the title in his first season. He took part with the Young Boys in the Champions League 2018/19 and was eliminated after the group stage with 4 points as bottom of the group.
