Nicolas Bürgy (born August 7, 1995 in Bern ) is a Swiss football player . He plays the position of central defender and is at BSC Young Boys under contract.

Career

After starting out in football at the local FC Belp , Bürgy switched to BSC Young Boys as a child . There he went through all junior levels and signed his first professional contract in 2015. After signing the contract, he was loaned to FC Wohlen in the Challenge League for the 2015/16 season, in which he made his debut in Swiss professional football at the age of 19 in the cantonal derby against FC Aarau . For the Freiämter he played 26 games and scored one goal.

For the 2016/17 season Bürgy returned to BSC Young Boys and made his debut on September 10, 2016 in a 2-1 home win over FC Luzern in the Super League , the top Swiss division. A month earlier, he had made his debut for the Young Boys in a runaway win against SC Veltheim in the Swiss Cup .

In February 2017, he was loaned to league rivals FC Thun for a season and a half . He played 36 games for the Bernese Oberland and scored one goal and two assists. Due to a protracted injury to the central nervous system, Bürgy was out for several months in 2018.

In September 2018, after recovering from an injury, he was loaned to FC Aarau for the remainder of the 2018/19 season and played 30 games. He scored one goal and two assists.

Bürgy has been back at BSC Young Boys since summer 2019 and scored his first competitive goal for the Bernese in a 4-1 home win against Neuchatel Xamax. On September 19, 2019, he made his debut in the away game in Porto in the UEFA Europa League . In January 2020, the Young Boys extended his contract term early by three years until 2023.
