Denny Landzaat (born May 6, 1976 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

Landzaat began playing football at the Amsterdam neighborhood club Buitenveldert before joining the Ajax youth team at the age of eight . In his first professional year in 1995/96, however, he only made one appearance and another three minutes in the Champions League. He then moved to the second highest class at MVV Maastricht , who made it to the Eredivisie this season . In this and the following two years he played every competitive game for MVV.

In 1999 he moved to higher table regions in Tilburg to Willem II . There, too, he quickly became one of the team's most important players in the creative midfield, who hardly missed a team game. He also showed great scoring qualities there. It was only logical that he was appointed to the Dutch national football team for the first time in 2001 . But there he could not really assert himself against the established stars of the international top clubs in his position.

At the turn of the year 2003/04 he even moved to the up-and-coming AZ Alkmaar . In fifth and third place, he and the team won the runner-up championship in the third year and thus also the Champions League qualification. Alkmaar had already made it into the UEFA Cup semifinals.

With the success at the club, where he was a star of the team, came his return to the national team, where he plays an important role in the game system in midfield, supporting the fast Dutch strikers. In the qualifying games for the 2006 World Cup , he was part of the regular formation. At the 2006 World Cup, Landzaat was only a substitute and was used in three of four games. Since the end of the World Cup he has been part of the Oranje team again .

Despite his successful work in Alkmaar, Landzaat moved to the English Premier League for Wigan Athletic for a transfer fee of 4.4 million euros at the beginning of the 2006/07 season . He returned to his home country in January 2008 when he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam . In his first game for Feyenoord, he scored his first goal.

In the summer of 2010, Landzaat moved to the reigning champions FC Twente Enschede . In his first season he reached the runner-up and the cup victory with Twente . His contract expired in the summer of 2013. Before the following season, Landzaat kept fit for a while at his old club AZ in Alkmaar, but he did not find a new employer until the start of the season. In January 2014, he was hired by Willem II Tilburg in the Eerste Divisie .
