Christoph Riegler (born March 30, 1992 in Ybbs an der Donau ) is an Austrian football goalkeeper who is currently under contract with SKN St. Pölten .

Career

Career start at ASK Ybbs

Riegler began his active career as a football goalkeeper at the age of eight in May 2000 with ASK Ybbs from the Lower Austrian town of Ybbs an der Donau, which was already financially troubled at the time . At the club, which is still active in lower-class football today, the young goalkeeper went through various youth leagues before he received an offer from SK Rapid Vienna in 2006 that wanted him to join the club's offspring. With the Viennese , however, Riegler only enjoyed a brief, albeit instructive, training and came back to Lower Austria at the end of March 2007, exactly on his 15th birthday.

There he was immediately accepted into the AKA St. Pölten , where he was used for the various academy teams. Although his talent was Riegler in the 2008/09 season not for the U-19 team in the Toto- sponsored U-19 youth league, which won the championship title with a reasonable lead over their pursuers in the further course of the season. He was also a member of the very successful U-18 youth team that was used in a small Lower Austrian youth league. Without a use of the former Rapid youngster, the clearly dominating St. Pölten team achieved the championship title in this league with a goal difference of +112 and 18 wins and a draw from 20 games played. Meanwhile, Riegler played mainly in the U-17 academy team with games in the Toto U-17 youth league and acted there for the most part as a regular goalkeeper. With the team he reached the runner-up title behind the U-17 team from Linz in the 2008/09 season .

Also in the same season, Riegler played two games for the second U-17 academy team with play in a Lower Austrian U-17 junior league and was on the bench in a few other games without a job. At the end of the season, the team, which had dominated from the start of the season, won the championship with a goal difference of +145 and 24 wins and a draw from 26 games. In his senior year at the academy, Riegler was mainly used in the Toto U-19 youth league and achieved fourth place with the team in the final ranking. In addition, the then 18-year-old won the championship title with the U-18 academy team in the small Lower Austrian U-18 youth league. Riegler made seven championship appearances and sat on the bench in other games.

State league and professional debut

After a very successful time in the academy of the Lower Austrian state capital, the young goalkeeper made the leap into men's football before the 2010/11 season, where he was first accepted by SKN St. Pölten in their second team with play in the 1st Lower Austrian regional league and then made it into the professional squad. Until his actual league debut in men's football, it finally lasted until August 2010. After he had already been used in a few friendly games, Riegler made his men's debut on August 21, 2010 when he was for the national league team in a 2-1 home defeat against ASK Bad Vöslau guarded the St. Pölten goal for the full duration of the game.

Less than two months after his debut in men's football, Riegler already made his debut in professional football on October 15, 2010, when he stood in the goal of his team for the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over SC Austria Lustenau and the injured goalkeeper Thomas “Tommy” replaced Vollnhofer . In his second professional appearance on the following match day, Riegler gave a goal position for Florian Zellhofer's 1-0 opening goal in the 17th minute of the game in the 4: 3 away win over Vienna from a wide tee . In mid-May 2019, he extended his contract until summer 2022.

In 2016 he was promoted to the Bundesliga with SKN St. Pölten .
