Andreas Ibertsberger (born July 27, 1982 in Seekirchen am Wallersee ) is a former Austrian soccer player and current coach.

Career

Player career

The dynamic and strong defender began his career as a youth player with his home club SV Seekirchen in 1945 . The 1.77 m tall Ibertsberger came to SV Austria Salzburg via the federal youth center in 2001 and played himself in the foreground both in the club and in the ÖFB's U-21 team in the following years . Since January 2005, the brother of the former national player Robert Ibertsberger played at SC Freiburg and, although more of a right-footed player, was mostly on the left side of the defensive back four, just like in Salzburg. His former coach at SC Freiburg, Volker Finke , judged the Seekirchener to be a great defender with good prospects.

On January 29, 2008, he moved to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim after he had already signed a contract for the 2008/09 season. He made it to the Bundesliga with TSG and was also autumn champion in 2008.

Andreas Ibertsberger made his debut in the Austrian national team on October 13, 2004 under team boss Hans Krankl in the qualifying game for the 2006 World Cup against Northern Ireland . He caused a stir internationally with his excellent cover work against superstar David Beckham in the international match against England on October 8, 2005. Beckham was forced to two fouls on the young Austrian due to Ibertsberger's good performance and was then expelled from the field by the referee.

On February 7th, 2009 Ibertsberger and his teammate Christoph Janker showed up ten minutes late for a doping control after a game at Borussia Mönchengladbach , because they had first attended a team meeting. According to media reports, the two soccer players were threatened with years of suspension. However, the proceedings against the players were finally discontinued because “there was no classic doping offense”, but “it was a negligent violation of the anti-doping guidelines of the DFB”. Therefore TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was fined € 75,000 and the physiotherapist € 2,500.

On April 26, 2012, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim announced that the contract, which expired on June 30, 2012, would not be extended. Ibertsberger left Kraichgauer after four and a half years.

It was not until the end of January 2013 that Ibertsberger found a new club in the second division MSV Duisburg . He signed a contract that was limited to the end of the season with the option to extend it for another year. This option was not drawn, however, so that Ibertsberger's guest appearance in Duisburg ended again after six months.

Coaching career

On June 26, 2014 it was announced that Ibertsberger will be the new assistant coach at 1899 Hoffenheim II from the 2014/15 season. He has been working as a U19 coach at Eintracht Frankfurt since 2019 .
