Elias Kachunga (born April 22, 1992 in Cologne ) is a German - Congolese soccer player . The son of a German and a Congolese is currently active at the English club Huddersfield Town and has been a national player of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 2017 .

Career

Kachunga started playing football at Eintracht Cologne when he was three . He later moved to the youth department of Fortuna Cologne .

From 2000 to 2005 he played in the Mettmann district , four years for SSVg 06 Haan , one year for VfB Hilden and then moved to the youth department of Borussia Mönchengladbach . Towards the end of the 2009/10 season he was also used for the first time for the second team playing in the Regionalliga West ; for the 2010/11 season Kachunga moved up to the professional squad. He made his Bundesliga debut on October 17, 2010 (8th matchday) when he came on for Raúl Bobadilla in the 78th minute in the 3-2 defeat in the away game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .

In January 2012, Borussia Mönchengladbach awarded Kachunga to third division club VfL Osnabrück after a two-week trial training session until the end of the season . Kachunga made his debut for VfL on February 7th, 2012 (24th matchday) in the 3-2 home defeat against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and scored the goal in the 34th minute to make it 2-0.

For the 2012/13 season, Kachunga was loaned out again, this time to Hertha BSC , relegated to the Bundesliga . He made his debut for Berlin on August 12, 2012 (2nd matchday) in the 3-1 defeat in the away game against FSV Frankfurt . On January 3, 2013, his loan agreement was terminated. He was then awarded to SC Paderborn 07 until the end of the 2013/14 season . At the end of this season he rose to the Bundesliga with Paderborn . On May 27, 2014, SC Paderborn Kachunga was permanently attached to the club. On August 24, 2014 (1st matchday) he made his debut in the Bundesliga in a 2-2 draw at home against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . With the interim 1: 1 in the 37th minute, he scored the first Bundesliga goal of his club and his first goal in the Bundesliga.

For the 2015/16 season he was signed by FC Ingolstadt 04 , for whom he made his Bundesliga debut on August 15, 2015 (1st matchday) in a 1-0 win in the away game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . He came to only ten season appearances and remained without a goal. For the 2016/17 season he moved on loan to the English second division club Huddersfield Town , for whom he made his debut on August 6, 2016 (1st match day) in a 2-1 home win against FC Brentford and with the goal to make it 1-0 in the 50th minute scored his first goal.

In March 2017, Huddersfields drawn an agreed purchase option for 1.3 million euros, so that Kachunga was firmly committed to the 2017/18 season. He received a contract until June 30, 2020.

National team

Kachunga made his debut in the German national jersey on October 14, 2008 in Elversberg in the goalless draw of the U17 national team against the selection of Italy. He scored his first international goal for the U18 national team on October 10, 2009 in Meppen in a 6-0 win over Algeria with the goal of the final score in the 87th minute with a penalty kick . For the U19 national team he scored three goals in seven games. On October 5, 2011, in the 3-2 win against Italy in Reutlingen and on September 9, 2012, in the 2-2 draw against Poland in Großaspach , he played an international match for the U20 national team . As the son of a Congolese (Democratic Republic of the Congo) father and a German mother, and because he had not yet played a compulsory A international match for Germany, Kachunga was able to switch to the Football Association of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in March 2017 . He was nominated for an international test match against Kenya on March 26 and made his debut in a 2-1 defeat when he came on in the 78th minute.
