Vera V. Serganova , Russian Вера Владимировна Серганова , German transcription: Wera Wladimirowna Serganova (born 1961 ) is a Russian-American mathematician who studies algebra and algebraic geometry.

Serganova received her doctorate in 1988 from the University of Leningrad with Dmitri Alexander Leites and Arkadi Onishchik ( Automorphisms and Real Form of Complex Finite-Dimensional Lie Superalgebras ). She was at the Keldysh Institute for Applied Mathematics in Moscow, went to the USA in 1990 and is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley , where she has been since 1992.

Serganova deals in particular with representation theory of super algebras (introduced in 1977 by Victor Kac ), their classification, automorphisms and associated symmetric (super) spaces, also with applications in string theory and integrable systems of mathematical physics (such as the Yang-Baxter equation) . She also deals with algebraic geometry.

In 1998 she was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin (Characters of simple Lie superalgebras) and she was selected as plenary speaker for the ICM 2014 in Seoul (Finite dimensional representations of algebraic supergroups). In 2017 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . From 1994 to 1996 she was a Sloan Research Fellow .
