Career

In the club

Clubs in Spain

Alcácer began his career in his hometown with CD Monte-Sión Torrent and Torrent CF, from where he moved to the youth department of Valencia CF in summer 2005 . There he came after his training on January 14, 2012 for his first appearance in the Primera División when he was substituted on in the 0-1 home defeat to Real Sociedad San Sebastián in the 71st minute. For the 2012/13 season he was awarded to Getafe FC .

In August 2016, after 93 league appearances (30 goals) for Valencia, Alcácer moved to reigning champions FC Barcelona , with whom he received a five-year contract. With the Catalans he was once Spanish champion, twice the Spanish Cup and once the national Supercup . His goal in the cup final on May 21, 2017 against Deportivo Alavés to make it 3-1 was the last goal scored in Madrid's Vicente Calderón stadium . As with Valencia CF, the competition was fierce and the striker was never able to develop into a regular.

Borussia Dortmund

At the end of August 2018, Alcácer moved to Borussia Dortmund on loan to the Bundesliga for an initial two million euros until the end of the 2018/19 season . BVB had a purchase option of 23 million euros, which can be increased by five million euros through bonus payments and would bind Alcácer to Borussia Dortmund until June 30, 2023. Borussia Dortmund activated the option on February 1, 2019, after it had already been announced in November 2018.

In his league debut for Dortmund on September 14, 2018, the 3rd matchday, he scored in the home win against Eintracht Frankfurt after his substitution for Maximilian Philipp to the 3-1 final score in the 88th minute of the game. On the 7th matchday Alcácer was substituted on in the 60th minute in the home game against FC Augsburg with a score of 0: 1 and scored three goals, including a goal from a free kick in stoppage time to make it 4: 3. Alcácer also broke an old Bundesliga record: he scored six goals after only three Bundesliga appearances and that with 81 minutes.

In the league game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on November 24, 2018, Alcácer set two more Bundesliga records with his 2-1 winning goal, both with his eighth "joker goal" and with his ninth league goal after just 237 minutes. The previous record holder Gert "Charly" Dörfel had held this record with nine goals after 565 minutes since the premier season of the Bundesliga .

In August 2019, Alcácer won his first title with the club when the double winner of the previous season, FC Bayern Munich , was defeated 2-0 in the DFL Supercup . In the further course of the season, the Spaniard fell out again and again due to minor injuries and could not build on his performance from the previous season. For the second half of the season, BVB signed Erling Haaland, a direct competitor in the storm center.

Return to Spain

At the end of January 2020, the attacker returned to Spain and signed a contract in the Primera División with Villarreal CF that was valid until June 2025 . Alcácer became Villarreal's most expensive transfer to date.

In the national team

Alcácer took part with the Spanish U17 national team in the U17 European Championship 2010 , where he reached the final and was the top scorer. At the U19 European Championship in 2011 and the U19 European Championship in 2012 , he won the title with Spain.

On August 29, 2014 Alcácer was nominated for the first time for the senior national team by Vicente del Bosque . In the 1-0 defeat against France on September 4, 2014, he also made his debut for Spain when he came on for Diego Costa in the 67th minute of the game . He scored his first international goal in the following game on September 8, 2014 in a 5-1 win over Macedonia . In qualifying for the 2016 European Championship in France, he was the top Spanish goalscorer. He was not nominated for the Spanish squad for the tournament itself, nor for the 2018 World Cup .

Alcácer contributed three goals in four games to qualify for Euro 2020 , which Spain finished undefeated.
