Benik Tunani Afobe (born February 12, 1993 in Leyton , London ) is a Congolese - English football player.
Career
society
Benik Afobe joined Arsenal FC's youth academy at the age of six ; previously he was discovered by scouts at a local club. In the 2007/08 season he scored forty goals for the U-16s, in 2008/09 he scored eleven times in thirteen games and in 2009/10 he scored 21 goals in 24 games for the U-18s. That season he was voted Player of the Year. He signed his first professional contract for Arsenal in February 2010 after being watched by FC Barcelona .
On November 20, 2010 he was loaned to Huddersfield Town in Football League One for two months . He made his debut that evening in a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday . After the game, he received high praise from his coach and longtime Newcastle United player Lee Clark . He scored his first two goals in the Football League Trophy in a 5-2 win over Rotherham United . After the loan period ended on January 4th, he returned to Huddersfield Town on January 28th until the end of the season. Due to the serious injury of Anthony Pilkington , he got a permanent place in the second half of the season and was voted "Man of the Match" four times. Despite Afobe's good performance, scoring five goals in 28 league games, Huddersfield failed in the playoffs to qualify for the new season in the Football League Championship . At the end of the season he returned to London .
In the pre-season 2011/12, he made a good impression at the Emirates Cup when he was substituted on for Jack Wilshere in the 7th minute of the game against the New York Red Bulls due to an injury, but was also injured in the 74th minute .
On March 22, 2012 Afobe was loaned to Reading FC for the rest of the season , where he only came to three league appearances. On August 3, he moved to Bolton Wanderers on loan for a year . A day later he made his debut in a friendly against Portsmouth FC in the Trotters' shirt . A few days later, he scored all three goals for Bolton in a 3-1 friendly win over Tranmere Rovers . After being substituted on for Kevin Davies in his first league game against Burnley FC in the second half and two more appearances as a substitute, he made his debut in the League Cup against Crawley Town , where he made the interim 1-0 Leadership scored. On October 23, he scored his first goal of the season in a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers . Although the loan period should run until the end of the season, Afobe returned to Arsenal in January 2013.
Afobe was loaned to Millwall FC in February 2013 , but after only five games for the Lions , a knee injury threw him back and he was no longer operational by the end of the loan period. On January 30, 2014, Afobe was awarded to Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season . After twelve league games and two goals by the end of the season, he was loaned to Milton Keynes Dons for the 2014/15 season.
After Afobe scored 19 goals in 30 competitive games for MKD in the Hinserie, he moved to the second division Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship in January 2015. The Wolves are transferring around 2.5 million euros to their home club Arsenal. The attacker then played a sensational second half of the season and ensured that the Wolves almost made it into the playoffs. In the end, they only missed the playoffs because of the poorer goal difference. With the Wolves he formed an almost perfect trio with Bakary Sako and Nouha Dicko . The fans dedicated a song to the three of them, which was sung at the games.
In the transfer period 2015/16, Premier League promoted Norwich City wanted to transfer around 13 million euros for the attacker to the Wolves. But the club refused. After strong performances in autumn with nine goals in 25 games, he moved to the Premier League in early January. The striker signed a contract with newly promoted AFC Bournemouth until June 2020. The transfer fee should be 13.3 million euros, making Afobe the most expensive purchase of the Cherries.
National team
Afobe led the England U-12 national team as captain at the 2005 Junior World Cup in France . In 2008 he was part of the squad that started the Victory Shield , where he scored four goals in three games. He set the record for the most hits in Michael Owen's U-16s . With the U-17 national team, he won the U-17 European Football Championship in May 2010 . In August 2010, he dared to make the leap to the U-19 national team. In June 2011, he was part of the U-20 squad for the U-20 World Cup in Colombia , but was called back by Arsenal FC to do the season preparation with the professionals.
On November 13, 2012, he made his debut for the England U-21 national team against Northern Ireland and scored a goal.
