Niclas Eliasson Santana (born December 7, 1995 in Varberg ) is a Swedish football player of Brazilian descent who has been under contract with the English second division Bristol City since July 2017 . The winger is a former Swedish junior international.

Career

Falkenbergs FF

Niclas Eliasson was born in Varberg, southern Sweden, to a Brazilian and a Swede. He started playing football at Falkenbergs FF and was promoted to the first team in the 2013 game year . He made his debut on March 2, 2013 in a 2-1 away win against BK Häcken in the Swedish Cup . On April 9, 2013 (1st matchday) he played his first game in the second highest Swedish division when he came on as a substitute for Carl Wede in the 78th minute of the 2-0 away win against Örgryte IS . At the age of 17, he quickly established himself in the starting line-up of the aspirant and distinguished himself above all as a preparer. On June 29, 2013 (14th matchday) he assisted three goals in the 4-0 away win against Ängelholms FF . He scored his first goal for the FFF on the last day of the season in a 4-2 home win against Ängelholms FF. With this victory, the club secured the championship title and promotion to the top Swedish league . With one goal and 13 assists Eliasson contributed to the excellent performance.

AIK Solna

On November 5, 2013, Niclas Eliasson's move to AIK Solna was announced. On March 31, 2014 (1st matchday) he made his debut in the 0-2 home defeat against IFK Göteborg in Allsvenskan, when he came on for Kennedy Igboananike in the 53rd minute . He did not succeed in breaking into the starting line-up in the near future. On August 31, 2014 (22nd matchday), he scored his first goal for Gnaget in a 4-2 away win against IFK Norrköping . and he played 16 league games this season in 2014 , in which he managed only one goal. In the following game year 2015 , he was in every league game in the matchday squad, but played only ten missions in which he contributed a template.

IFK Norrköping

In the following season of 2016 , he again missed the leap into the starting lineup and on July 28, 2016, he joined league rivals IFK Norrköping on loan. On August 7, 2016 (17th matchday) he made his debut in a 3-1 home win against Örebro SK for his new employer, when he was brought into the game for Tesfaldet Tekie in the 69th minute . After a few initial difficulties, he established himself in the starting line-up in September 2016. He scored his first goal of the season on September 18 (22nd matchday) in a 2-1 away win against Helsingborgs IF . He ended the season with 18 league appearances, in which he scored one goal and prepared three more goals.

On November 3, 2016, Eliasson's permanent move to IFK Norrköping was announced. In the next season in 2017 he had his breakthrough in the Allsvenskan. He was considered one of the best wingers in the league and stood out above all as a template provider. Before moving, he had collected three goals and ten assists in 17 league games.

Bristol City

On August 8, 2017, Niclas Eliasson moved for a transfer fee of two million euros to the English second division club Bristol City , where he signed a three-year contract. He made his league debut on August 12, 2017 (2nd matchday) in the 1: 2 away defeat against Birmingham City , when he came on for Josh Brownhill in the 68th minute of the game . He scored his first goal on August 22, 2017 in a 3-2 league cup win over Watford FC . His breakthrough as a regular player came in this 2017/18 season and he was only used in 13 of the 46 possible league games.

In the next 2018/19 season , he gradually made the leap into the starting line-up. On October 20, 2018 (13th matchday), he scored his first league goal for the Robins in a 1-0 away win against Brentford FC . However, he could only collect a few scorer points and slipped in the second half of the starting lineup. He played a total of 33 league games in the 2018/19 season, scoring two goals and collecting six assists.

In the course of the following 2019/20 season , he regained his place in the starting lineup . He established himself as one of the top assists in the championship and the team played for a place in the promotion playoffs this season.

National team

From June to September 2013 Niclas Eliasson played five international matches for the Swedish U18 national team . He then worked for the U19s until May 2014 and played three games for this selection. In October 2014 he was used twice in the U20 and scored one goal. In June 2017 he played two games for the U21s .

Personal

Niclas Eliasson's one year younger brother Joel is also a soccer player and also comes from the youth department of Falkenberg FF. In contrast to his brother, he was denied a breakthrough in professional football and has been without a club since January 2017.
