The Ernst-Haeckel-Schule is an integrated secondary school with upper secondary school with around 740 students in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district .

history

The educational institution was founded in 1991 as a 2nd comprehensive school with an upper level. At the request of the school, it has been named after the German natural scientist Ernst Haeckel since 1995 . The school has been located at Luckenwalder Straße 53 in the Hellersdorf-Nord district since 2002 in a main building and three container buildings . The school building was created when the entire new building area was laid out in the 1980s and is a type of school building made of prefabricated concrete slabs.

School profile

The Ernst Haeckel School has a mathematical and scientific profile. In addition, you can choose between a music-artistic profile, a historical-geographical profile and a sporting profile.

Upper secondary school

With the 2016/17 school year, a three-year upper secondary school was set up again for the Ernst Haeckel School, which existed before the school structure reform until the 2010/11 school year. In 2020, 131 students will attend grades 11, 12 and 13.

Three foreign languages ​​are currently taught at the school: English , French and Spanish .

Furnishing

There are eight science rooms, two computer science rooms, a library, a theater room, a wood and metal workshop, a teaching kitchen, an electronics workshop, a sewing room and a renovated canteen at the school. Around 80 computers, 48 ​​of which are laptops, are available for lessons. In addition, the school has had two gyms again since 2020.

The pupils have the opportunity to join a large number of working groups, including the school band, the choir or the model railway company.

School trips

School trips are an integral part of the secondary school. The language trip to England is worth mentioning, for example , where the participants can improve their language skills. But the commemorative trip to Krakow with a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp is also very important at the school. The school also offers sport-related trips. There is the annual ski trip to the Oberjoch ski area and a surf trip to the San Pepelone holiday village .

Prices and extracurricular activities

  • In 2017, the members of the theater group, together with actors, developed a play about the persecution of Sinti and Roma in the Third Reich and performed it in front of an audience: Rastplatz Marzahn .
  • On December 13, 2018, the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin awarded the Ernst Haeckel School - represented by the active group Schule ohne Rassismus - Schule mit Courage and the Förderverein - with the Youth Integration Prize 2018.
  • The theater group appeared in an international project in Auschwitz in spring 2020 , which the press reported on.

Cooperations

Ernst Haeckel school collaborates with many partners, including the Berlin Trauma Center , the Knorr-Bremse and the club Kids & Co . The above-mentioned association organizes practical assignments in companies for schoolchildren on request.
