Anthony Neil James Pilkington (born June 6, 1988 in Blackburn ) is an English football player .

Career

Stockport County

After he had drawn attention to himself by numerous hits for the lower class club Atherton Collieries , Anthony Pilkington moved on December 23, 2006 to the English fourth division club Stockport County . After a narrowly missed play-off participation in 2006/07, County reached fourth place in the table in the 2007/08 season and qualified in the subsequent play-offs against the Wycombe Wanderers and the AFC Rochdale for the third division.

Huddersfield Town

On January 23, 2009, the third division rival Huddersfield Town signed him , with whom he finished the 2008/09 season in ninth place. In the Football League One 2009/10 the club from Huddersfield reached the play-offs in sixth place, but lost in the first round against Millwall FC . The following season brought another increase with third place, and Huddersfield prevailed in the first round of the play-offs against AFC Bournemouth . The final game against Peterborough United was lost 3-0. Anthony Pilkington (31 games / 10 goals) missed the end of the season due to a serious injury in March 2011. Norwich City

After missing promotion again, Pilkington signed a three-year contract with the Premier League promoted Norwich City on July 6, 2011 . Cardiff City

National team

Pilkington, who was born in England, did not initially know that he was also eligible to play for Ireland. After that, he was only brought on again in March 2016 in the game against Slovakia .

On May 12, 2016 he was appointed by national coach Martin O'Neill in the provisional 35-player squad for the EM . In the end, however, it was not taken into account for the European Championship finals.
