The military airfield Hatzerim ( ICAO code: LLHB ) is a base of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) . It is located in the Negev desert in the southern district of Israel , west of Be'er Scheva at the Kibbutz Chazerim and has three runways with lengths of 2750 m, 2440 m and 1830 m.

history

The military airfield was built in the early 1960s and put into operation on October 3, 1966. As of 1996, the "Hammers" squadron based there received the F-15I, which was adapted to Israeli needs . From 2006 the "Knights Of The Orange Tail" squadron finally received the adapted F-16I .

Current

In addition to the fighter jets, the IAF aerobatic team is also housed on the airfield. The Israel Air Force Museum and the IAF Aviation Academy are also located on the premises . The latter trains prospective pilots and the like. a. on the German Grob G 120A and in Italian M-346 jet trainers .
