Chazerim ( Hebrew חֲצֵרִים) is a kibbutz west of Beersheba in the Negev desert in southern Israel .

Netafim, one of the world's largest manufacturers of artificial irrigation systems, is based in Chazerim . The kibbutz holds 20 percent of the company's shares in Netafim.

history

The kibbutz was founded on the night of October 5th to 6th, 1946 as part of Operation Eleven Points . The name means "homestead" and was taken from the Bible (Deuteronomy 2.23a) because there homesteads in this area are mentioned: "the Avwiter who lived in homesteads as far as Gaza".

economy

There is a five hundred hectare jojoba plantation in Chazerim, which in 2018 will produce a fifth of world production of jojoba oil.

Culture and sights

The IAF Aviation Academy and the Israeli Air Force Museum are located at Chazerim Air Base .
