Athletic career

Fritz, who comes from near Tübingen , played in his youth at SV Unterjesingen and VfB Stuttgart , where he moved to the club's licensed squad in 1984. He played his first Bundesliga game on the 32nd matchday of the 1984/85 season when he was substituted on for Rainer Zietsch in the 1: 2 away defeat at VfL Bochum in the 74th minute . In the following season he made five more Bundesliga games. Since he did not play any more professional roles in the 1986/87 season and mainly played for the amateur team in the third division Oberliga Baden-Württemberg , the 20-year-old left the club in 1987 and joined Freiburg , who also played in the third division FC on. With his new club he was second in the table behind FV 09 Weinheim in the season 1987/88 . The team missed the promotion games, but qualified for the German amateur championship in 1988 . Despite a 2-1 away win in the first leg, he failed with the club with a 0-3 home defeat against the eventual titleholders Eintracht Trier . In the following seasons there were financial problems, so that the team was heavily rebuilt. In the 1988/89 season he was on the pitch in all 34 league games and thus helped to ninth place in the table, in the following season he was appointed team captain by coach Walter Güntner as one of the oldest at the age of less than 25 . The opening win against SC Geislingen was followed by seven games without a win and the team quickly found themselves in the table cellar. Thereupon the coach was changed in November, Michael Lameck took over as player- coach with the experience of over 500 Bundesliga games.

At the turn of the year 1989/90 Fritz turned his back on Freiburg FC and returned to SV Unterjesingen "for family reasons". After half a year he rejoined VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 1990, where he played for the amateur team in the league until 1995. At the end of his career he moved to SC Pfullendorf , where he was later elected to the club's board. In 2013 he took over the presidency of the club.
