Oberliga Baden-Württemberg 1986/87
2nd Bundesliga 1987/88

The football league Baden-Württemberg 1987/88 was the tenth league season.

In the end, FV Weinheim prevailed in an exciting duel with Freiburg FC, which celebrated the autumn championship. The sticking point was the 31st match day, when the Freiburg team lost 3-0 against last year's champions SV Sandhausen. The Weinheimers, who had tied the points up to that point, passed the Breisgauer and did not give up the table lead until the end. The North Baden team around player-coach Stephan Groß , who was sixth last year, were not necessarily among the title contenders and were therefore all the more surprising. In the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga , Weinheim was then shown the limits; as the last of the southern group, the ascent was clearly missed. Freiburg FC took part in the German amateur championship finals, but they were eliminated in the first round against the later amateur champions Eintracht Trier .

The descent was also dramatic, in part it was only decided by the goal difference. Since the extremely bad second half of the second half of the season for SSV Ulm in the 2nd Bundesliga made it pretty clear that the sparrows would be relegated to the amateur league Baden-Württemberg, there were five relegation places in the season. In the end, the three newcomers Amicitia Viernheim, the SV's sports fans DJK Freiburg and the amateurs of VfB Stuttgart were relegated to the subordinate leagues quite clearly. In the fight to escape the 14th place in the table, up to eight teams were involved at times. There were only four points between seventh and fourteen in the final accounts, the teams from Offenburg, Marbach, Schwetzingen and Ludwigsburg finished the championship tied. Only because of the worst goal difference of all four teams, SpVgg Ludwigsburg had to start the bitter step into the association league. In return, VfL Neckarau from the Baden Association League , SC Pfullendorf from the Südbaden Association League and FC Tailfingen from the Württemberg Association League rose directly as the respective relay champions. VfR Aalen from the Württemberg Association League qualified via the promotion round of the runner-ups .
