Christian Wück (born June 9, 1973 in Werneck ) is a former German soccer player and current coach .

Career as a player

The Wück used in attacking midfield or attack initially played at DJK Gänheim in his youth . In 1987 he moved to the B youth team of 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 , in 1988 to the youth team, then to the amateur team of 1. FC Nürnberg . From 1990 to 1994 he played with the professionals of 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga . When he first played in 1990, Wück was the third youngest (17 years and 133 days) debutant in the history of the Bundesliga after Jürgen Friedl and Christian Wörns , and he is still one of the top 10 in this statistic. In his first full season 1991/92 he was a classic joker , of 32 completed games he was substituted on 26 times and scored eight goals. He subsequently turned down offers from FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund . For this he moved to Karlsruher SC in 1994 , who played in the UEFA Cup in the season ending at that time . He stayed there until 1999. After a one-year interlude at VfL Wolfsburg , he ended his career early from 2000 to 2002 with Arminia Bielefeld in the 2nd Bundesliga as a sports invalid.

Wück made 14 games for the U21 national team and scored three goals. In 1999 he was the first professional footballer to have his meniscus transplanted.

Career as a coach

After his career as a player in 2002, he worked for Arminia Bielefeld as assistant coach of the amateur team and player observer . From the end of 2005 to the end of 2006, Wück was a coach at SV Enger- Westerenger in the Association of Westphalia , initially even as a player- coach . After the SVEW withdrew its participation in the league during the winter break, Wück switched to Rot Weiss Ahlen as assistant coach . On May 25, 2007 Christian Wück was declared the successor of Ahlen's trainer Heiko Bonan . Wück took up his post as head coach on July 1st. There he succeeded in his first season of direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.

On March 3, 2009, Wück was given a leave of absence and released from his duties as a trainer for Rot Weiss Ahlen. As the official reason for the dismissal, the club named the sporting failures of the past few weeks, as well as the absence from training due to Wück's coaching course at the Sports University in Cologne .

On October 5, 2009, Wück became the coach of Holstein Kiel . At the end of the 3rd league season 2009/10 , which ended in 19th place in the table (relegation place), Christian Wück was given a leave of absence and released from his duties as coach of Holstein Kiel.

In the meantime, Wück was the head coach of the VDV camp in Duisburg, where players and coaches without contracts keep fit.

In November 2011 he accompanied the German U-16 national team and head coach Steffen Freund on an international match as an assistant coach .

On August 17, 2012, the DFB announced that Wück will look after the German U-16 national team in the future. He has been responsible for the U-17 national team since the end of June 2013 .

Under his leadership, the U17 national team reached the final of the U-17 European Football Championship in 2015 for the first time since 2012, which was lost 4-1 to France. As a result, the team was also qualified for the U-17 World Cup in Chile that same year . There Wück reached the round of 16 with his team, in which they were eliminated against Croatia. After the tournament, Wück led the following group of players from 2015 to 2017 for one season each in the U-16 and U-17 national team before he took over the management of the U-15 juniors in 2017 .

Private

Wück is married and has two daughters. He lives in Bielefeld-Schröttinghausen .
