Lutkun ( Russian and Lezgi Луткун ; Lezgian also Луткунар , Lutkunar ) is a village in Akhtynsky District of the Russian Republic of Dagestan . It is the second largest village in the Raion after its administrative center Akhty and one of the oldest and largest villages in the Samur Valley. Lutkun is located in the northeastern part of the Greater Caucasus at an altitude of about 1200 m to the left of the Samur, 4 km northwest of Akhty and a good 25 km from the state border with Azerbaijan .
history
The early history of the village is largely unknown. A first village fortress was founded on a mountain in the 2nd century AD and has been preserved as a historical, now uninhabited part of the village. A mosque was built there in the 10th century and a madrasa was opened in the 12th century . The old part of the village was surrounded by a high wall with two gates. The founding year of today's village is 1839.
population
The population of Lutkun had fallen back below 3000 in the 2010 census, after this number had just been exceeded for the first time in 2002. Lutkun is the seat of the rural community (selskoje posselenije) selsowet Lutkunski with a total of 3702 inhabitants (2010). The municipality next Lutkun the lesser village belongs Nowy Ussur ( "New Ussur"), 60km in a straight line to the northeast an enclave on the territory of Magaramkentski rayon forms ( location ). This unusual constellation is the result of an earthquake in 1966 in which the village of Ussur, located about five kilometers north of Lutkun in the mountains, was completely destroyed ( Lage ). The residents were then resettled along with those of other destroyed villages in the new village closer to the edge of the mountains.
The inhabitants of the village are predominantly Lesgians of the Sunni faith.
