Javier Horacio Pinola (born February 24, 1983 in Olivos , Buenos Aires Province ) is an Argentine football player who also has Italian nationality.
Career
The defensive player, who is mainly used on the left side of defense, first played in his youth for his hometown club Huracán de Tres Arroyos . From 2000 to 2002 with the Chacarita Juniors and made 55 games (1 goal).
In 2002 he moved to Europe for the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid . After being used there only twice in a year and a half, the Madrilenians loaned it to the Argentine Racing Club Avellaneda in early 2004 . There he was a regular for a year and a half and reached third place in the Primera División in the 2005 Clausura , the best club result in a long time before he returned to Europe in 2005.
Bundesliga in Nuremberg
For the 2005/06 season, Pinola was loaned again from Madrid and moved to the German Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg for a year . In the first half of the season, the Argentine was used irregularly, but in the second half of the season he was part of the team. With 8th place, the club achieved the best placement since the early 1990s. Therefore, the loan contract was initially extended until 2007 and, after an agreement was reached with Madrid on a transfer fee, Pinola signed with FCN until 2010. In the successful year 2006/07 he was on the field from the second day of play in all games of the season. As a left full-back, he was one of the most successful defensive rows in the Bundesliga with only 32 goals conceded tied with Schalke 04. The cup competition was even more successful , in which he played all games and with two assists and two goals on penalties to reach the final and finally to victory the champions VfB Stuttgart contributed. After the season, the kicker sports magazine Pinola selected the best full-back of the second half of 2006/07.
National team intermezzo
Pinola became South American champions in 2003 with the Argentine U-20 national team. At the end of the 2007 season, Javier Horacio Pinola was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Argentine national team for the friendly against Switzerland on June 2 ; on June 5 he made his international debut; in the 4-3 win against Algeria at Camp Nou in Barcelona , he played over 90 minutes.
He was then also as a full-back in the squad of the Argentine national team for the Copa America taking place in Venezuela (June 26 - July 15, 2007). He was removed from the squad by national coach Alfio Basile and had to vacate his place for Juan Román Riquelme , who had returned to the national team at short notice.
On March 9, 2016 it was announced that Pinola was again nominated for the Argentina national team. He is supposed to help out in the World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia . He played over 90 minutes against Bolivia and won with the team 2-0.
Relegation, relegation and relegation
Early in the 2007/08 season Pinola suffered in the Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on September 26, 2007 a bone splintering in his left lower leg and was absent from his club until Christmas, which ended the first half of the season on a relegation zone. In the first game of the second half of the season on February 2, 2008 against Karlsruher SC, he played again and from then on played until the end of the season, except for a yellow card suspension. Nevertheless, the club could not save itself and was relegated.
At the beginning of the 2008/09 season , Pinola, like the whole team, showed uncertainty and had a slight phase of weakness. This and the great shortage of personnel in the defense meant that he was eventually used as a left central defender and no longer as a left full-back. Besides goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer , he is the only player to have played the entire first half of the season. In the second half of the season he was used in all games except for a yellow card suspension. In the only game without Pinola there was the only major defeat of the season with 2: 6 for Nuremberg, who despite this outlier had by far the best defense in the 2nd division. In the end, the club reached third place in the relegation games, where they made the immediate resurgence perfect without conceding a goal. The kicker sports magazine finally named Pinola the third best central defender of the second half of the season.
In the 2009/10 season , Pinola, who was now back on the left as a left full-back, was one of the club's most important players. Except for a yellow card suspension on matchday 19, he was in the starting line-up in all league and cup games and was only substituted once. In the end, Nuremberg was on the relegation site. In the first leg Pinola saw his tenth yellow card and was therefore suspended for the second leg; but even without him the league succeeded. However, it was also Pinola's first Nuremberg season in which he failed to score.
During the summer break, despite several offers from other clubs, he signed a new three-year contract with 1. FC Nürnberg until 2013. The expiring contract was extended in May 2013 for another two years until 2015. At the end of the 2014/15 season it was not possible to agree on a new contract, so Javier Pinola left 1. FC Nürnberg after ten years of club membership.
Rosario Central
At the end of June 2015, Pinola's move to Rosario Central in Argentina was announced.
Fan popularity
As a cup hero, but above all because of his passionate commitment, “Pino” is the crowd's favorite in Nuremberg - in the favor of the fans only comparable to Marek Mintál , who has since played for FC Hansa Rostock but has returned . However, his high level of motivation also often leads to disputes with the referees and yellow cards, which is why he is often on the verge of yellow card suspensions or expulsion. Because of his sense of justice, he is also nicknamed "Robin Hood". After going into the second division in 2008, the Argentine was one of the first candidates for a club change, but also because he came into the fan curve crying after relegation, the Internettis fan club immediately launched the “Pinola must stay!” Campaign . On the website, thousands of people spoke out in favor of Pinolas staying within a few days. In the end, this previously unique campaign brought together over 22,500 entries, which were packed in six boxes and handed over to Pinola on June 29th.
In addition, two die-hard Pinola fans started a poster campaign. They hung up around 60 posters in downtown Nuremberg with the text “Pinola must stay - Pino, you are the club”. On June 24, 2008, 1. FC Nürnberg announced that Pinola had given its written commitment to fulfill the contract in the second division, also or mainly because the fans had tried so hard for him.
Appreciation
On June 10, 2015, 1. FC Nürnberg published the message that the contract with Pinola would not be extended after ten years because the club's management had decided on an alternative. According to the then sports director Martin Bader , Pinola “always embodied the qualities that 1. FC Nürnberg stands for”, so on December 16, 2015, Block 31 in the Max Morlock Stadium was named after him.
Others
A female saddleback tapir born in the Nuremberg zoo in 2012 was christened “Pinola” after the soccer player.
