Thomas Kaminski (born October 23, 1992 in Dendermonde ) is a Belgian football player who plays in the position of goalkeeper . He is under contract with the Belgian first division club KAA Gent .

Career

In the club

Youth (2000 to 2008)

He began his active career as a soccer goalkeeper in 2000 in the youth department of Zellik Sport in Zellik , a small suburb of the Belgian municipality of Asse . There he was active in the various junior departments until 2002. When Zellik Sport merged with KSV Asse in 2002 and appeared under the new name FC Asse-Zellik in 2002 , Kaminski remained loyal to the club and played games in the various youth division until 2004. In 2004 he moved to the Wallonia region , where he was accepted into the AFC Tubize 's junior team . After almost a year in Tubize , he moved to East Flanders to work in the youth department of the KAA Gent . There he played alongside his twin brother Matthias, who acted as the central defender in the youth teams.

Germinal Beerschot (2008 to 2011)

After good performance in his youth, he moved to Antwerp after three years in 2008 to join the Germinal Beerschot football club . There he was first in the squad of the club's youth team and was used for this in various divisions. After he had been ordered to the professional squad for the first time in the 2008/09 season , Kaminski came on May 8, 2009 - exactly one year after the death of the talented striker and former Germinal Beerschot player François Sterchele - at the age of 16 years and 197 days his professional debut when he was substituted on in the penultimate round of the season in a 3-1 home win over KV Mechelen . In the game he was used from the 90th minute for the Anderlecht loaner Silvio Proto . Eight days later, Kaminski made his full 90-minute debut. In the away game against his former youth club AFC Tubize, he performed well and only had to reach behind him once when the opponent converted a penalty. In November 2009 Kaminski signed a long-term contract until 2015. After that he was initially still behind the Macedonian international Tomislav Pačovski, the second choice in the goal of Germinal Beershot. But at the end of the 2009/10 season he was used in four games of the play-offs and made the breakthrough. In the 2010/11 season , Kaminski was Beerschot's regular goalkeeper and was able to keep the class despite conceding 46 goals with the club.

Löwen and Anderlecht (from 2011)

For the 2011/12 season Kaminski joined the Oud-Heverlee Lions . There he replaced Yves Lenaerts relatively quickly as a regular goalkeeper and subsequently played 25 league games. He almost rose in the regular season with the team and still reached the Europa League playoffs. He finished this with the Oud-Heverlee Löwen as runner-up behind Cercle Brugge and thus narrowly missed the qualification. During the summer break he moved to the reigning champions, RSC Anderlecht .

Cyprus - Denmark - return to Belgium (from 2014)

For the 2014/15 season Kaminski was loaned to Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus , where he was elected “Goalkeeper of the Season”. Anorthosis finished the season in fifth place.

In the summer of 2015 it was awarded again for a year, this time to Denmark to FC Copenhagen .

In 2016 KV Kortrijk signed him and in the winter break of 2018/19 he moved back to his youth club KAA Gent . The transfer fee was 1.5 million euros.

National team

Kaminski is the son of a Polish father and a Belgian mother and would therefore have been eligible to play for the Polish Football Association .

Kaminski made his first international appearance on September 20, 2008 in a U-17 international match against his peers from Liechtenstein. The away game in Vaduz , which was played on the occasion of qualifying for the U-17 European Championship 2009 , ended in a 5-2 victory for the Belgians. In total, he completed four international matches for the Belgian U-17 juniors by 2009. From 2009 to 2011 the young goalkeeper was a regular member of the Belgian U-19 national team. For this he completed twelve international matches, including qualifying for the U-19 European Championship 2010 in France . He missed this, but was able to qualify for the U-19 European Championship 2011 in Romania . During the tournament he played all three group games of the Belgians and was finally eliminated as bottom of the table. A little later he made his debut in the U-21 national team against Greece and lost it 1-0 through a penalty from Ioannis Potouridis . In May 2013 he was called up for the qualifying game of the 2014 World Cup against the USA , but not used.
